Do not read the info on my site if you’re easily offended

Wednesday’s theme is always words of wisdom.

Johnny-Cash

So, I’ll begin by saying — if you find anything I write here “offensive” click here for something that is more your speed. And don’t bother coming back to my site. If you don’t think I should say this or that start your own site whining and complaining about what I write — I really don’t care.

The last thing I want is people who are the mentally or physically the antithesis of strong on my site. Period.

Sometimes the truth hurts and sometimes you need to hear it. So, if youre too much of a fragile flower…well then…sucks to be you.

Yesterday’s aerobic power work went really well.

The 5 sets of kipping HSPU to 10″ Depth, MU’s and alternating box step-ups to a 24″ box was tough but good. Glad I was able to rep out multiple HSPU’s to that depth. U have a feeling Im going to be retesting the 30 HSPU for time again at that 10″ depth — should be fun and good to see the progress. We’ll see.

Today’s training is two 25min amraps with 5mins rest b/t sets

20 OHS @ 45lbs

10 GHD Sit-ups

500m Row

**5 min rest**

50ft OH Walking Lunges @ 45lbs – hands in snatch grip

50ft Bear Crawl

150 Jump Rope Singles

Then a nice little PM Z1 Run for 20 mins Run @ 50%

Reading for the day:

“It is the fundamental theory of all the more recent American law, in fact, that the average citizen is half-witted, and hence not to be trusted to either his own devices or his own thoughts. If there were not regulations against the saloon (it seems to say) he would get drunk every day, dissipate his means, undermine his health, and beggar his family. If there were not postal regulations as to his reading matter, he would divide his time between Bolshevist literature and pornographic literature and so become at once an anarchist and a guinea pig. If he were not forbidden under heavy penalties to cross a state line with a wench, he would be chronically unfaithful to his wife. Worse, if his daughter were not protected by statutes of the most draconian severity, she would succumb to the first Italian she encountered, yield up her person to him, enroll herself upon his staff and go upon the streets. So runs the course of legislation in this land of freemen.” ~ H.L. Mencken

Snatching 100kg and More Training

Good morning Team — hope yall had a great Monday and are ready for another great day. I know I am!

stop_your_bitching!

So, yesterday I set a new PB for my Snatch and NAILED 100kg. I don’t know why but for the Oly lifts kg’s always sound waaayyy more cool than pounds :) And while to me 100kg sounds cool and all…it also sounds kinda lame. I mean, only 100kg? only another 50kg to go I guess. But I am pretty happy about that.

It was a 15# personal best so while Im happy about it, now I am going to work really hard mastering the movement and working on the basic mechanics and mental approach of each piece of the lift. It will be a great journey full of ups and downs coupled with mental and physical battles between the barbell and I. Im sure I will lose some but I am sure I WILL WIN far more than I lose.

My shoulders were pretty smoked from the snatch work and was only able to get 215 for my push press and split jerk barbell complex. Solid work though.

Clean/dead lift speed work yesterday was tough but good. 5×3 rippin 345# off the ground. Really, really trying to get to 140kg+!

Press and pullup work also press tough — last sets did 145repsx4 and 3 pullups @100# — not too shabby after all that other work.

Today Ive got to work on some serious aerobic power — should be another nice and sweaty Tuesday morning!

Here’s what’s on tap for me:

5 sets of:

AMRAP Kipping HSPU to 10″ Depth

20 sec rest

7 Ring MU’s

20 sec rest

2 min Alternating Step-ups to 24″ box

Rest 1:1

Easy day yall!

Football Updates, Training and Monday Motivation

gold metals

Team — take the words above to heart. Meditate on them. Do the common things uncommonly well. Work hard at being great at the things other people take for granted.

Patience leads to perseverance. You must begin how you intend to end.

Training for the day:

It’s snatch 1RM day. I’ll take 30-45mins to find a current 1RM. Should be a fun morning. Read Donny Shankle’s take on the worlds fastest lift.

Some good thoughts from the article:

Sometimes you beat the bar, and sometimes the bar beats you.

The golden rule in weightlifting is being able to hold your back straight.

Once you have the physical tools for the snatch, the mental battles begin.

You train to stay on your heels off the floor, and somehow get pulled to your toes. You train to keep the bar close to your body during the pull, and somehow it gets away from you. You train to get under the bar as fast as possible after you reach the finish of your pull, and for some reason it feels
like you’re moving so slowly you could recite the goddamn preamble to the Constitution. The lift on occasion can feel like a quagmire of zombies pulling you down while they gnaw on your face.

Let us get one thing straight: for those who are thinking of training the snatch heavy, be as decisive as a general yelling orders to his troops. Move once, like you mean it, and get to the point—the point being get your ass as low to the ground as possible. In the process of things to come, be prepared to drop the bar on yourself hundreds of times, develop aches in places you didn’t know existed, and go through countless rolls of tape to keep the flesh on your thumbs from ripping off. Weightlifting is an unforgiving sport that tests your willpower against a cold piece of steel, and the snatch loves to probe at your uncertainty.

The rest of my training for the day looks like this:

Then ive got a nice little complex of push press x 1 and split jerk x 2 – building to a tough set.

Next up will be moderate load dead lifts at 70@ with a rep tempo of 22X1. It will be 5 sets of 3 reps with 2 min. Got to focus on speed off the floor.

All this will be followed by heavy, strict shoulder press 3-5 reps with a rep tempo of 20X1,  5 sets, resting 2 mins then into weighted shoulder width pullup clusters. These also have a rep tempo of 30X0. The cluster of reps are 1.1.1 x 5 sets, resting 2 mins before moving back to the shoulder press. Easy day.

Then in the afternoon it’s a nice little 20min run.

It’s Mother’s Day, Training and Please, Stop Whining

What’s goin’ on Team?! Hope you all are enjoying a nice little Mother’s Day weekend. Started off kinda rainy, now the sun’s out and it’s a pretty nice day.

So, my training from Friday was:

Snatch work at 90%. 6×1 @185 — really trying to work on solid hip+knee extension along with a better catch. This is another day where I realize again adequate warm up is ALways necessary. Because I didnt warm up well (or really at all) the first 3 reps were ok but felt kind of heavy. Then, I missed rep #4 forward, redid an caught. Missed rep #5 twice, and then hit on the third attempt. Then hit #6 easy because I was mad.

And then, trying to work more on solid knee and hip extension I did some above the hang squat cleans with a full pause at the knee. Built up to a tough single @255#. Could definitely increased load but had so much more to do and only had about 20 more mins to work with.

Then I moved on to moderate weight squats and did 5 x 3 305 @ 20X1. With only 2mins rest b/t sets it got tough on the last set. But 3 reps each set = Easy Day!

Last two things for the day was a little bit of Pendlay rowing and bench press. Fun times at the gym with Competition Team coaching between my squatting and Pendlays and bench work.

stop-whining[1]

The Competition Team is coming along well. Lots of people hitting new PR’s, focusing on solid movement patterns and also getting stronger with not only gymnastic skills but also barbell gymnastics (the Olympic Lifts).

But, I tell you what…some people need to realize:

1) We’re just working out

2) don’t take yourself SOOOO seriously

3) be comfortable with where you are

4) be comfortable with WHO you are

5) reread number 2, 3 and 4 + grow up

It’s ok to be mad or frustrated with not hitting a lift or missing a PR attempt. It’s ok to be competitive. But when you take what you’re doing too seriously and you also don’t appreciate where you are in the process it typically leads to a WHOLE LOT of ridiculous behavior that’s just totally uncalled for.

Relax, have fun, come in and train but DO NOT make it soooo about you that you can’t take the results of the training (emotionally) and then just make it weird for everyone else around you. Something else to keep in mind…

You can learn the most about people by how the lose, NOT by how they win. — Matt Shannon

Alright guys, time to go have some lunch with my mom, give her some nice gifts and then…you guessed it…back to work for me.

Hope yall have a great rest of the weekend — and again — Happy Mother’s Day!

My training from Monday and yesterday + what I will be doing in about an hour.

Monday’s training and results –
A. Below Knee Hang Squat Snatch, build to a tough double – full pause @ below knee position, no dropping b/t reps — built up to 185# for the double but the last rep cost me. I tweaked my should a little bit catching the bar and it really effected my push jerk
B. Push Jerk, 1 RM — was only able to build up to 235. i missed it twice because of shoulder pain. got REALLY pissed because I got it easily last week rested for 2mins the threw it up like it was 135. Decided to moved on and save my shoulder
C. Deadlift @ 22X1, 4 reps @ 65% RM x 5 sets, 2 min – focus on speed off floor, 2 sec rest b/t reps on floor — this was done @325#
D1. Seated DB OH Press @ 30X0, 4-6 reps x 5 sets, 2 min did 40, 50, 55 and 55# — 6 reps for all sets
D2. Weighted Wide Grip Pronated Chin-ups @ 30X0, 2-3 reps x 5 sets, 2 min; 55, 60, 65, 70# 3 reps for all. shoulder started feeling it so I called it after the 4th set.

PM – Z1 Run — nice and smooth — barely broke a sweat.
20 min Run @ 50%

Tuesday –
5 sets @ high effort:
2 Rope Climb to 15ft
15 Kipping HSPU

R2- 4:23 HSPU 8, 7

R3-4:28 HSPU 5, 5, 5

R4-4:52 — shoulders were getting smoked and had to do HSPU in 5, 3, 3, 2 and 2 – legs were feeling it on the rower too.

American Exceptionalism: From Gettysburg to Damascus

  • Washington and Jefferson vs. Lincoln

Prior to 1863, the year of the Gettysburg Address, American foreign policy was based mostly on the Washington/Jefferson ideology of commercial relations with all nations, entangling alliances with none. It was considered to be a virtue to remain neutral in disputes between two other countries. As Murray Rothbard wrote in an essay entitled “Just War,” in those days “neutrality was considered not only justifiable but a positive virtue.” In the old days “he kept us out of war” was a great tribute to any American political leader, and “standing idly by” while other nations warred with each other was “a mark of high statesmanship,” according to Rothbard.

The Lincolnian rhetoric of “continuing revolution,” by contrast, has been the ideological cornerstone of all American wars ever since the “Civil War” (a.k.a. War to Prevent Southern Independence). It is routinely used to disguise the fact that war is always and everywhere a “racket” as General Smedley Butler, the most highly decorated Marine in U.S. history, declared in his book, War is a Racket. War is invariably waged over some hidden economic agenda for the benefit of the politically-connected class. As Rothbard further pointed out, in the past “interventionists were more correctly considered propagandists for despotism, mass murder, and perpetual war, if not spokesmen for special-interest groups, or agents of ‘the merchants of death.’’” Scarcely a high ground.

Today we “are obligated to take up the sword and wage a perpetual war to force Utopia on the entire world by guns, tanks, and bombs,” said Rothbard. We are “humanitarians with a guillotine,” as Isabel Paterson wrote in her book, The God of the Machine. We go about “pursuing freedom and equality” for other people in other countries, supposedly, even if we must kill them by the hundreds of thousands and wreck their entire societies. “The humanitarian in theory is the terrorist in action,” she wrote.
